Studying abroad for the first time: a 12-month timeline

Most students underestimate how long the journey actually takes. This is the rhythm we recommend to every Focus Escape student.

Months 12–10: Shortlist & profile audit

Identify five to eight universities across two countries. Audit your transcripts, gather references, and lock in your IELTS or TOEFL date.

Months 9–7: Apply

Submit applications. Universities reply on rolling deadlines — apply early to maximise scholarship windows.

Months 6–4: Decide & deposit

Compare offers, pay your deposit, request your CAS or I-20, and start the visa process the day it arrives.

Months 3–1: Visa, flights, accommodation

Book a visa appointment, finalise accommodation, then flights. Book flights last — they're the most flexible piece.
