Season matters more than the resort
December to April is dry and calm. May to October brings sudden squalls — beautiful for storm-watchers, frustrating for everyone else. Shoulder months (late November, early May) offer the best value-to-weather ratio.
Seaplane vs. speedboat
Seaplanes only operate in daylight. If your flight lands after 3pm local time, you'll overnight in Malé — factor that into your itinerary or pick a speedboat-access resort within 90 minutes of the airport.
Overwater vs. beach villa
Overwater is iconic but hot in the afternoons. Beach villas with direct lagoon access are usually quieter, cooler and 20–30% less expensive.
